More Pizza Stats: America’s Least Favorite Toppings

When we talk about pizza, we tend to focus on what most people like. Everyone knows pepperoni is America’s favorite pizza topping, usually followed closely by sausage, but what’s our least favorite? If that’s something you’re wondering, you’re in luck. There are people who find out these things, and they have the numbers. So, what topping do Americans hate the most? That would be anchovies. Those tiny salty fish are by far the least popular choice to top your pizza. Pizza shops like us at Border Brewery keep track of these things so we can give the people what they want.

The three toppings people are least likely to ask for at their local pizza shops are anchovies, pineapple, and jalepeños. Let’s find out why.

Anchovies: Too Salty

Some people are instinctively put off by anchovies because they are tiny fish. However, people who have tried them and then decided they don’t like them usually say they’re too salty. While that’s a fair criticism, that’s also why people like them. The saltiness balances out the mild creaminess of the cheese and the sweetness of the sauce. But if you’re like most people and can’t convince yourself to like them, you’ll get no judgment from us.

Pineapple: Too Sweet

Pineapple on pizza is the source of a lot of controversy in the pizza world. Should Hawaiian pizza be a thing? Should we call it Hawaiian even though a Greek man in Canada invented it? If you’re one of a large number of people who don’t like pineapple on pizza, it’s likely because you think it’s too sweet, you don’t like the texture, or both. On the other hand, if you think pineapple and ham are a great pizza combo, more power to you.

Jalapeños: Too Spicy

If pizza is your comfort pizza, the kick from jalapeños might not be what you’re looking for. Jalepeõs bring heat and spice to any dish they’re in, and if that’s what you want, you’ll like them on pizza. But if you want something milder, jalepeños might be a bit much. Essentially, the divide between people who like and dislike jalepeños on pizza is how you feel about spicy food.
