About US

our beginnings

Hi Joe Here! I wanted to share with you a quick story about how Border Brewery all started! Having been in the mechanical field since 1996, I suddenly became aware that I wasn’t happy and decided to follow my passion of home brewing.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

What’s better than some home brewing, cooking and hanging out with Pepper my border collie … am I right?

Shortly after I decided to take my passion and turn it into an actual business and opened my own home brew supply shop. Of course my family and friends said it was a dumb idea and were skeptical but I decided to rent out an industrial building in Salem, NH and to my surprise the response was overwhelming and grew quite fast.

And business started to slow down and I knew that I had to switch gears and move into a NANO Brewery. So we decided to rent more space at the same location, dug up floors, tore down walls and designed a small 1 Barrel Brew House!

After prepping the floors for epoxy and dealing with time constraints to get beer ready for opening, we decided to make a brown ale; one of my favorite recipes that I crafted over the past couple of years.

With no name whatsoever on what to call the beer we started brewing that day and still had to do deal with all the day to day tasks of the home brewing supply store. Well as any home brewer knows, you never walk away from the brew kettle before it comes to a boil! If you do you

could be facing a tremendous hot and sticky mess that could take hours to clean.

Well you guessed it; it was over looked and everything boiled over leaving an absolute mess on the floor. Lucky for us Pepper the shop doggo was at full attention and was walking all over the hot sticky spill while thoroughly basking in the sweet stick mess around her.

After yelling PPEEEEPPPPEEERR!!!! A hundred times I looked down and saw all of the sticky paw prints that covered our newly prepped floors. It dawned on me right then and there that our flagship beer at Border Brewery was to be called STICKY PAW BROWN!

A few months after our grand opening we decided that we needed a bigger boat to meet demand, so we moved to our current location 224 North Broadway Salem NH. That’s when we took a hard look at our community and wanted to think outside the box in offering our customers something different.

There are tons of sub shops, pizza shops, Italian etc, so we went big and decided to do BBQ! To this day Border Brewery is offering the best beer selection along with the best BBQ in the area! Come by and see for yourself!
